JUNI AMERICA, INC., Redmond, Washington (global headquarters in Australia)                   2003 to Present

Cellular network coverage solutions provider, customizes and leverages proven products and technology imported from Korea.

     Co-founded US subsidiary.  Directed technical marketing of wireless network solutions.  Planned and set up Seattle-area office and warehouse facilities.  Supervised administrative, technical support and engineering staff.

CELLETRA INC., Seattle, Washington (global headquarters in Israel)                                  1998 to 2003

Manufacturer of capacity and coverage enhancement solutions for wireless access networks.  Customers included wireless infrastructure equipment OEMs and service providers.

     Managed and supported marketing, business development and customer trials of wireless network capacity and coverage solutions for cellular network operators and wireless infrastructure OEMs.

     Led corporate strategic planning activities, and helped conclude three successful rounds of private investment to allow expansion and restructuring of Celletra’s product line.  Co-invented key technologies which served as linchpin for company’s success up to the present.

     Worked closely with customers’ Performance Engineering staff to analyze root causes of service affecting issues, recommend product solutions and obtain stakeholder support to advance the sales process. 

     Key customer interface regarding solutions, trial planning, applications engineering and technical issues. Secured and led five major trials in the Americas.  Chaired trial status review meetings with customers, resolved customer and technical issues, and kept internal and customer senior management informed regarding trial progress.  Performed detailed analysis of network statistics and drive-test results.  Successful trial resulted in a 5-year master purchase agreement and OEM sales agreement.  Secured approvals by operators’ equipment evaluation and operations support teams. 

     Appointed chairperson of advisory panel of wireless industry experts convened in UK, and made recommendations to UK government regarding funding for university wireless applied research.

INNOVA CORPORATION, Seattle, Washington (now Stratex Networks)                               1997 to 1998

Manufacturer of digital terrestrial microwave and mm-wave transmission systems for cellular, PCS, and wireless access networks.  Annual sales of $45M.  Grew from 70 to 180 employees, through IPO.

Led radio system and network management system software product design, development, system testing, and sustaining engineering.  Directed staff of 40.  Annual budget of $5M.

     Improved quarterly revenues from $1.6M to $14.7M in 15 months by expanding product line including two new radio systems, leading the industry with innovative SNMP network management capabilities.  Strengthened relationships with OEM partners.

     Arranged technical interchanges with key hardware and software suppliers to create a shared vision of plans to complement each other’s contributions.  Developed relationships with external resources to supplement and leverage internal resources.

     Leveraged internal engineering resources by initiating and managing external contract software and hardware engineering efforts of consultants and offshore R&D teams.  Improved release schedules for innovative network management software by 12+ months.

     Spearheaded collaborative technology development process with key vendors, including HP.  Shared respective technology evolution plans, shortening product development cycles by 6+ months.

 

Senior Scientist, formerly Engineering Manager - Strategic Technology Group

AT&T WIRELESS SERVICES, Redmond, Washington (now Cingular Wireless)                       1995 to 1996

Key leadership roles in “Project Angel” fixed wireless access system.

     Managed development of system-level specifications and architecture, design of base station hardware and embedded software, and RF system engineering efforts. 

     Led development of base station and specialized RF network planning software used in successful field trial.  Set up and maintained remote office for 5 months at external technology development group location, and managed successful proof-of-concept demonstration.

     Primary technical contact with Network Operations group, and defined RF network design approach and base station deployment guidelines.  Directed wireless system performance simulations.  Supervised radio propagation testing and analysis of results.

 

Principal Member of Technical Staff

SBC LABORATORIES, INC., St. Louis, Missouri                                                                  1989 to 1995

Strategic technology subsidiary of SBC Corporation, now with $42B in annual sales.

Led wireless technology applied research projects.  Assessed and developed new technologies.

     Made long-range planning and technology strategy recommendations to senior management and authored text of five-year strategic technology plan for SBC Wireless network.

     Key technical resource on due diligence and advanced network planning efforts toward potential SBC acquisitions and investments.

     Prepared business case analysis for advanced wireless services products.

     Managed major PCS trials in Houston, which proved feasibility of PCS urban spectrum sharing.  Authored text for SBC press releases.  Met frequently with FCC and NTIA executives and staff to discuss trial results.  Developed software tools to accelerate PCS deployment and minimize microwave system relocations. 

     Defined PCS strategic direction, originated plans for wireless trials, and delivered senior management briefings.  Led to successful microcellular system deployment in Chicago, 2 GHz PCS trials in Houston and Dallas, and Fixed Wireless trial in St. Louis.

     Supervised planning for overseas field trial and network deployment for fast-paced international wireless project.  Developed specialized software tools for wireless network planning, prepared technical plan documents, and submitted high-quality bid package to foreign government.

     Selected as representative to Rutgers University Industrial Advisory Board, subsequently was elected chairperson.

AVANTEK, INC. TMA Group, Folsom, California (now Powerwave Technologies)                  1985 to 1989

Telecom Microwave Assemblies (TMA) group responsible for design, manufacturing and sales of equipment for cellular, CATV, satellite, and telecom microwave networks.

Directed marketing and product management for microwave power amplifiers, system retrofits, and test equipment.  Key customers were cellular service providers and regional Bell companies.

     Launched more than 10 new products including multi-carrier linear power amplifiers, test equipment, and RF repeaters for terrestrial microwave, satellite, and cellular networks.   Doubled market share to 40%.  Managed relationships with OEM partners and defined new product solutions.

 

Founding Director, Wireless Telecom Equipment Design and Development

DAVIS AND ASSOCIATES, Richardson, Texas                                                                    1979 to 1985

Telecommunications system engineering consultants.  Grew from 15 to 70+ employees.                 

Led design of RF and microwave telecommunications equipment, marketing and sales of R&D services. 

     Founded, staffed, and directed 25-person microwave and RF equipment R&D project team.  Network and consumer equipment design projects generated more than $200M in wireless equipment sales for client OEMs.

     Architected, supervised, and contributed to design and development of high linearity microwave transmission equipment.  Key customer interface for project which successfully modernized MCI’s network. Network capacity was tripled using the same radio spectrum.  Supervised network deployment and test.

     Seven U.S. patents and numerous foreign patents.  Additional inventions retained by former employers as trade secrets.  Fields:  radio communications, control systems, transmission systems, leak test instrumentation, signal processing.
